Where did you ride this weekend?

2012 Bike Jersey - San Diego CenturyWhere did you ride this weekend?

There were so many great rides last weekend, that we’re back for another jersey-winning edition of “Where did you ride this weekend?”

Keep in mind the free group rides on Saturdays with Revolution Bike Shop and Trek Bicycle Superstores Ride Guides.  It’s a great way to meet riders at every level, and have great support for the longer weekend road rides.

If you haven’t participated yet, we will be giving away San Diego Century bike jerseys this week (and every week until 5/19) with some fun website contest questions.  Two winners who participate this week will each receive a free 2012 San Diego Century bike jersey.  This week we are splitting it up for one jersey giveaway on the weekend, and one for the week.

Whether or not you want to participate, be sure to check out our 2012 merchandise, including the jersey, t-shirts and caps.

The question for today is simply “Where did you ride this weekend?”  Share your ride route and your GPS track from your GPS device or phone.  Post a comment below with your answer to get in on the Jersey contest. You may also post your answer and GPS track on our Facebook page.

Win a San Diego Century 2012 Bike Jersey. The best comments between Sunday and 11:59 pm  Monday 2/27/12  are eligible.  The judging team from San Diego Century will select the winning comments on 2/28, with the winner posted later in the week.

On Sunday I really stretched myself, and did a 60-miler from home to Dockweiler State Beach and back. From Los Alamitos to Redondo Beach, there isn’t a really pleasant way to ride without going way out of one’s way, so I just pushed out on Katella/Willow, Stearns, Willow, Wardlow, Carson, and Torrance Blvd. Good thing that Sunday morning traffic is light!
Once you get to Redondo Beach Pier, though, it’s just beautiful. There is a wonderful bike path along the beach all the way up to Ballona Creek (past LAX), but I turned around at Dockweiler SB, which is right under the jets taking off from LAX. Being an airplane nut, I could spend hours there just watching the jets. There is also a youth center there, where the kids were playing soccer on the beach, which I thought was pretty neat.
Going back, the pedestrian traffic was picking up, and you have to go slow and watch out for kids (and clueless adults) darting across the path. But the environment makes for a very nice ride. In summer the “scenery” is much nicer (wink wink nudge nudge!), but for a winter ride, this wasn’t bad.
I don’t have a GPS to track my ride, but my route is here: . (I followed the same route home).

On Saturday, I did my longest ride to date and loved every minute of it. The route was very simple, but I held a nice, even, pace at the front of our group. We did a total of 38.4 miles with beautiful views on the SART river trail, PCH, and Newport coast. My route can be found here:

I rode with the Trek Century Training this past weekend. We had a great ride from Fiesta Island (next to Sea World) all the way up to UCSD campus and back. It was a great day of sunshine and not a lot of traffic. It was a great ride with about 18 people in our group alone, there was probably about 80 people there total.

Some of the parts we rode on were new to me (first time doing a century) so it was nice to see a train roll right past us at one point, something that is a lot harder to see while driving. All in all a great day, can’t wait for this coming Saturday for week 3. Here is my ride:
