How to Win a Bike Jersey on 4/6

2012 Bike Jersey - San Diego Century

All the options for tasty cuisine at the rest stops and the finish line are coming together.  We’ll be sharing food details this week, so you can plan your fueling and fun along the course (before and after the climbing on the 3 Witches Climb and the Purple Monster Climb).  This week’s jersey giveaway question is all about fun and food for fueling along your rides.

If you haven’t participated yet, we will be giving away San Diego Century bike jerseys this week (and every week until 5/19) with some fun website questions.  We gave away one jersey over the weekend, so there will be one winner on Friday from those who participate this week.  The winner will receive a free 2012 San Diego Century bike jersey.

Whether or not you want to participate, be sure to check out our 2012 merchandise, including the jersey, t-shirts and caps.

This week’s question is “What is your favorite food both during and after your rides?”  Post a comment below with your answer to get in on the Jersey contest.

What is your favorite food both during and after your rides?”

I enjoy Almond Trail bars made by Earnest Eats during my rides.

After the ride, i enjoy a gourmet tuna melt (composition: tuna mixed with mayo, celery seed, dried onion, salt/pepper, thinnly sliced jalapeno peppers and sharp cheddar cheese served on sour dough bread). …..Oh boy!!

    Any booth serving IPA.

We pulled into a rest stop last Oct for the MS Bay to Bay. The lunch stop had hot rice and chicken burritos. First they warmed our hands then or bodies. We were given two and the second one was placed in my back jersey pocket to warm my back as we left the stop. I enjoyed it at the end, another thirteen miles later. I have riden many rides since and thankful for the fare. But that day the warmth was so good. Thanks.

Best ever rest stop snack was homemade chocolate chip cookies with walnuts, oats and cranberries mixed in. They were so good we looped around near the end of the ride for more!
Favorite after ride is grilled salmon over garlic mashed with fresh steamed green beans on the side, finished off with a Ghirardelli brownie.

Nutri Grain trail mix bars with banana – for the ride! When the ride is done.. feed me Carne Asada Burrito please! 🙂 And amen to IPA!

Gu Roctane Blueberry Pomegranate, sweet energy filled extra caffeinated goodness. Just the thing I need to get the blood flowing before a mass-start triathlon without letting any pre-race butterflies get the best of me.

During my ride I pack a variety of Cliff bars and halve bananas in ziplock baggies.

My favorite after ride meal is an egg fried in coconut oil topped with a slice of Wisconsin cheddar, a fresh slice of tomato and some fresh sliced avacado all packed on toasted Cybros Sprouted Seven Grain bread. It’s messy but MMMMM good

I love having fresh dates or dried apple rings on rides because they are delicious and provide quick energy. After rides I’m all about a nice refreshing smoothie packed with lots of spinach 🙂

During the race I like to eat some satisfying pleasure food. I carry a small bag of butter-toffee peanuts!! The balance of sweet, salty, and crunchy really hits the spot!! At the finish line, I race to my car, open the cooler, and drink some chocolate milk!!

Right before a ride: half a pb&j sammy, banana, coffee.

During a long haul: half a pb&j, banana and orange at each rest stop, then granola and shot blocks while I’m actually riding.

After a ride: a tall, frosty brewski, grilled chicken or a burger with some veggies on the side–then more brewskis, obviously!

  15. Lisa M. -

During a ride I like to have Cliff bars and banana.
After the ride give me some …….Grilled chicken with some pasta, salad and some veggies.

  16. Lisa Picek -

Before a ride: something nutritious..banana, apple, smoothie with yogurt, or maybe some eggs and a granola bar.

After a ride: generally anything I can get my hands on! 🙂 I usually crave something like pizza or burgers. Usually a treat to celebrate a good effort.

  17. Brent Hedden -

During the ride is typically cutie oranges and banana (easy to stuff in the pocket of my shirt). After ride is sometimes a BBQ of meat that’s been smoking while I was riding.

  18. Kimberly -

Before my ride, I have one of Trader Joe’s breakfast burritos. (They are frozen in two-packs…the perfect easy breakfast!) Food during my ride varies…but one of my favorite stops is the Bagel Shack in San Clemente where I get a whole wheat bagel with peanut butter and avocado. After my ride I make a fruit smoothie (banana, berries, and pineapple) with plain Greek yogurt, almond milk and a scoop of vanilla protein powder…my favorite recovery drink.

  19. Daniel Higgins -

Before I go out on a ride I typically have oatmeal with blue and black berries and maybe a egg or two for some protein. On the ride I usually take a wrap with a whole wheat shell, some turkey, a little cheese and lettuce. I have my hydro-pack with water and advo-care “spark” mixed in. After riding, a meal with some fish or a small serving of meat, green vegies like kale, swiss chard and spinach, and a little rice or quinoa. Yumm, super good for you! Eat well, fruits, vegies, protein, and you can ride all day!

  20. Robert Miller -

Before the ride banana pancakes..or apple fritter. Go.. Panican
During the ride anything i can stuff in my face while riding….Juanitas would be nice
After the ride a large Leucadia pizza with all the yummy toppings (you don’t want to know)..and a big Coke!
