How to Win a Bike Jersey on 4/20

2012 Bike Jersey - San Diego Century

We all love to see new cyclists joining our ranks, and sometimes it takes a little encouragement to get the newcomers started.  Maybe the San Diego Century routes seem daunting for new riders, but we all know that a little preparation is all it takes.  This week’s jersey giveaway question is all about helping a friend try the cycling life.

If you haven’t participated yet, we will be giving away San Diego Century bike jerseys and merchandise this week (and every week until 5/19) with some fun website questions.  We gave away one jersey over the weekend, so there will be one winner on Friday from those who participate this week.  The winner will receive a free 2012 San Diego Century bike jersey, and not only that, a nice package for a new rider that includes free registration for the 37 mile course, a free 2012 San Diego Century T-Shirt and a free road bike rental for May 19th.

Whether or not you want to participate, be sure to check out our 2012 merchandise, including the jersey, t-shirts and caps.

This week’s question is “Which friend would you like to try the 37 mi bike ride?”  Post a comment below with your answer to get in on the Jersey contest, and get your friend a free cycling package for 37 miles at the San Diego Century.

We also have a great package for new cylists, “Triple Team the 37”.  3 riders who register together for the 37 mile course can save over 50% and register together for $103.50 ($34/rider).  3 person “teams”.  Limited to 15 teams, ends 4/23.

I would love to get my daughter Jillian started in cycling. Last year she did the Las Vegas Rock and Roll half marathon with me and was such a great supporter and helped me finish. It was a great experience sharing it with her and this year we want to get more of the family involved. We are vacationing in Carlsbad at the time of your ride and I signed up for the Witches and was bringing an extra bike anyways. She is such a lively person, I know we would have a great time and her beauty will just add to the beautiful scenery of the coast!!

When I started riding my wife and family thought I was getting into yet another fad that would soon die off and that I would end up with just another bike hanging in my garage. That was almost 4 years ago and now I ride well over 100 miles a week, and my wife just went out and bought her new carbon bike (yea she is hooked too!)
Now I need to take the next step and get my youngest daughter into this sport as well, this ride would be a great opportunity for her to get out there and experience the rush of biking

I think I would like to get any friend to join me. About a year ago, I took up cycling because my knee was getting arthritic from past football injuries and in the span of that year, we’ve compiled a group of 5-7 friends that will ride together any given week! Most of us went out and bought road bikes and go on 20-30 mile rides at least ever other weekend, but we have never done an organized event. This would be a great one to start with!

Its payback time. My wife was a runner for as long as Ive know her. She tried and tried to get me to run but I was just never interested in getting in shape. In 2008, after 14 years of trying to convince me to run with her, she decided to step up her game and train for a full marathon, the San Diego, Rock N Roll. She had only run a few 5ks prior to that but nothing close to 26.2 miles. Well… it worked. Seeing her finish that race was amazing and I wanted in. I began running in June 2008 and together we ran our first half marathon 3 months later. Unfortunately , during that 2008 span, the years of running caught up to her. After our one and only race together she was not able to continue running because she developed plantar fasciitis. Now our roles are reversed. She is stuck on the sidelines while I go out for jogs. A few months ago I discovered the sport of cycling and thought maybe….just maybe…I had discovered a sport that would get my wife back in the game. So a few months ago I took the plunge, in hopes of inspiring her to try something new and I purchased a bike. The San Diego Century will be my first ever cycling event…how amazing would it be if it was a fresh start for my wife as well…
